Australian women's health declining across
key measures, landmark global report reveals
Breast cancer survivor & media personality, Lynette Bolton –
wife of former Sydney Swans champion Jude Bolton –
to front data launch, as national preventive screening gap widens

release of Hologic’s Year 5 Global Women’s Health Index findings,
coinciding with a panel discussion and screening of Conquering Breast
Cancer – a new Australian documentary revealing the human cost of
the nation's breast cancer screening gap.

​

This special event will be fronted by breast cancer survivor and media
personality Lynette Bolton – wife of former Sydney Swans champion
Jude Bolton – diagnosed with fast-growing, triple negative breast
cancer in December last year – alongside Specialist Breast Surgeon
Professor Bruce Mann, researchers and patient advocates.
 

Conducted by Gallup, the Index examines women's health across the following five dimensions in 144 countries and territories:

1. Preventive Care

2. Individual Health

3. Emotional Health

4. Basic Needs

5. Opinions of Health and Safety.

 

Australia is moving in the wrong direction on women’s health, scoring 59 out of 100, above the global average of 54.1,2 Other key Index findings include:

• Fewer than one-in-four (23 per cent) Australian women and girls aged 15+ report being tested for cancer in the past year;1

• All but one screening rate recorded in Australia has fallen below Year 1 levels;1

• More than one-in-five Australian women have struggled to afford food in the past year, and one-in-nine have been unable to afford shelter – contributing to a  decline in Australia’s Basic Needs score from 92 to 84 in five years.1

• Australian women are also more stressed, worried, angry and sad than they were in Year 1 – with 52 per cent reporting feeling stressed for much of the previous day, and 41 per cent experiencing worry.1

Release of the Index findings marks a national call to action on cancer screening and women’s health, encouraging Australians to prioritise preventive care.
